Sovereignty at Cathedral and San Francisco, Santa Fe

In the summer of 2014, I attended an inspiring educator workshop, Poetry of Place, at Santa Fe Prep.  The beginning of a poem was composed sitting at Cathedral Park that June.  The poem is my record of the tensions experienced, demarcation and emergence of space in the interaction and perception of significant art objects, and the experience of colliding narratives, which rise and fall at a specific location in the heart of Santa Fe.

A first edition of my poem was created later with letterpress on altered and dyed encyclopedia pages. The concertina structure was chosen to accentuate the play on the letter V and the chevron iconography informing the poem's imagery and layout.

The dimensions of this concertina book were intentionally selected to allude to, with some irony, portable 17th century Spanish books of hours and prayer books historically carried on travels.
